smoothuser's News

Posted by smoothuser - August 13th, 2011

I swear I have been testing the waters of 4 different flash movies all at once, trying to figure out which one I can roll smoothly with. Ideas were steadily flooding my mind and I couldn't make a decision. So, for the first time ever, i've decided to branch off an existing storyline. I have always liked the variety of the King of Fighters characters. They look normal, dress normal, have normal lives and great characters. I knew all this, yet I never ventured into the King of Fighters storyline. When I DID, I was pleaseantly overjoyed with what I found. So, my current project is called Descendants. It is based on I believe the first or second King of Fighters arc. I'm adding my little twist and characters into the mix, so expect some cameos. Since EVERYBODY is making groundbreaking history fights that have never been animated before, this series will hold one of my own. Two of the baddest ass females in the gaming universe will do the chick fight tango! I've already animated part of that one. I haven't decided where or when to place it yet. There are a few possible spoilers in the screenshot I have posted, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. There is SOOO much goin on! I have tons of options. I will also, for the second time ever, provide bios so you can read the changes i've made and see how the characters i've implimented fit into the storyline. I'm excited about this one because I don't have to think much. I just gotta animate the damn thang! It is still VERY early in it's beginning stages. If you don't know the story of King of Fighters, don't worry about it. I'm pretty much retelling it with a few twists and turns, but if you absolutely HAVE to read it, then by all means hit up wikipedia and some othersites and get your knowledge on HAHAHA. So, until i'm bored of this one i'm gonna keep pushin ahead. If i'm not working on this one then i'll probably be working on Future Force Installment II. THAT one is original. MKU fans...i'm sorry, I still haven't took the time to use my forbidden tools to resurrect my fallen flash. So until then, just keep watchin what you got. I'll provide a suitable filler to hold you over until i'm ready to jump back in to MKU. Keep on animating...TRUE BELIEVERS LMAO! (Stan Lee plug.)

After attempting to open a number of my flash files, I got a reoccurring cryptic message that no flash author wants to see..."the file is corrupted." I accessed MKU 4 just a few days ago and now it seems that I cannot. Ever since my computer recovered, my flash program got hit the hardest. I do recall transferring a few things to my external hard drive, but I don't know which works in progress made it. It's getting all the more depressing to attempt to open my movies that I was working on. My first HD flash works, but it's messed up in places that would cause me to painstakingly rework. It's not looking good in my flash world. I had a good bit of fight done in MKU 4. MANY hours of work and detail. If it's corrupted, you just might not see it for a while. I'll keep you updated on whatever decisions I make. The ideas are still churning, but the motivation is ever fading. See ya around.

I'm not one for updates because i'm always tempted to include a screenshot. I'm not gonna do that this time. Sadly, there's not much goin on in my animation world. School and Mortal Kombat have been my free time as of late, so i'm not gonna promise you anything there. I WILL however, promise any of you Mortal Kombatants a royal ass whuppin if you so choose to decide and challange me. My screen name is smoothuser on there. Please don't suck. I fought one guy from here and he stunk. It made my game want to shoot itself. Jumping is not a strategy. It's BORING and easily countered. I'm proficient with six characters so far and I don't SPAM ATTACK like some of those suckasses out there. with Please have some skill and don't stink up my TV with your crap tactics. Other than that, I got nothin.

When you're working steadily on one project, you tend to get bored, lose focus, or your creative side shuts down....at least mine does. Every now and then I get a spur of the moment idea that I have to start animating. Keep in mind, it was a spur of the moment idea to animate the very first Mortal Kombat Unlimited episode. So, this is my recent spur of the moment idea. I like where it's going so far. I have a few spots (wrestling terminology for "big move") worked out. I haven't given up on MKU, but I did need a little break from it. This recent one here just might go down as a really short short. I don't care if it gets bad ratings or whatever. I really want to put it out there. So, ONE OF THESE MANY FREAKIN IDEAS will make it to Newgrounds soon enough. Keep watching. Oh yeah, and DRINK MILK ;-)

Sidetracked Yet Again

Posted by smoothuser - April 6th, 2011

Three days removed from my 28th birthday (boooo....oldness) I am VERY pleased to say Mortal Kombat Unlimited 4 is in production. I have a good minute of pure fight done already. A few days ago I was bitten by the animation bug again. I got tired of doing tidbits of animation here and there with other characters who I think will make for a good fight in the end. That was nice and all, but I was drawn back to Jago and Scorpion. Seeing as how the last one ended, I am able to jump straight into the fight which as we all know is what people watch these things for anyway. Within a good fight is a good story. I am going to try and show the anger and intensity from Scorpion as well as the skillful tactics from Jago as they battle until the last man is standing. Somebody's gonna die on this day folks! I'm also trying to stay true to the characters respective games' style of play such as Killer Instict's massive combos and combo breakers and Mortal Kombat's stiff screen shaking shots and blood. Every time I look at their sprites, I am mezmorized at how well these two characters fit together. I couldn't have asked for a better pairing from two different gaming worlds. What really made me want to start up again was the idea of special effects. I wanted it to be flashy and over the hill crazy. Lately, I've been restricting myself to normal, plain fighting to say the least. My goal is to go above and beyond video game crazy with this one. All the things that attract you to your favorite fighting game, that is what I want to put in this one. Of course, all the symbols are gonna make this megabyte heavy, so I'll have to be careful not to put myself in a position where i'll have to scramble an anticlimactic ending. Story wise, I still have great plans and surprises for our Shaolin Monk team, but first the main attraction cometh. I start school again on the 11th, so between now and then i'll have the entire day to animate. I might go against my new policy and post another update as I am closer to finishing the production, but for now here's your one post and screen shot. Thanks to all of you who have been sticking with the series...both the good and the bad. Much appreciated.

I know you're out there. If you're on the playstation network, hit me up. Handle smoothuser. We'll fight all night. Let's go. For those of you who have the money, I strongly recommend you reserve MORTAL KOMBAT which is due on April 11. If my words don't convince you, put this in your browser and smoke it!

Even though my main animating computer with the majority of my sources and set ups is still in the shop, I can still animate with what I have on my desktop computer. With that being said, don't expect any lengthy feature presentations. I plan to make a few animated shorts. The biggest obstacle there is keeping the short SHORT. I've started one already. It is possible that it could tie in to an existing storyline or just have happened before the events of a current one. No previews, no lengthy descriptions, just one screen shot.

Not out of the game yet..

I'm still in slight disbelief that Future Force Installment 1 did so poorly. I guess it depends who's around when you post seeing as how the preview did significantly better in a shorter amount of time. Kinda pissed me off a little. As a result, I won't be submitting anymore previews of upcoming projects. I'll update with regular posts and a screen shot. I was debating on whether to post anything more here or just do it purely for sport. I'm going to animate. I don't know where they will end up. We'll see...moving on.

Some recent updates.
My HD flash is still far too large for this site. Odds are, I'll post it on a similar site or tambok's kombat pavilion. At this point and time, my animations have taken a back seat for two reasons. 1) I'm back in school and 2) my primary animating computer came down with a lot of complicated viruses. I had to admit it to the computer hospital. It should be done soon. That's all I got for now. I know a few of my long time fans, I'll call them my 1st fans since they have commented and rated me since first movie, are doing a few animations of their own. Check them out. That's all I got.

It's time for another finishing touches post. I'm fine tuning Installment One of Future Force. I was hoping to have this one released this year, but as you can see there's only one day left, so this will be my first release of 2011 and it will not disappoint. I have completed my menu with biographies on all the main characters. So after the fine tuning is done, it will be posted. Happy New Year and keep animating.

F.F. Finishing Touches

Posted by smoothuser - December 6th, 2010

Happy Holidays and blah blah New Year. Recently i've been very motivated lately moving from one flash to another. My HD Flash is finished and ready for the public. The hiccup there is that it, like MKU 3, is a tad bit above the alloted Megabytes. I'm awaiting an answer from the great Tom Fulp hoping that he will grant my request so I can post it.
Animation for MKU 4 began as soon as I posted MKU 3. The Jago/Scorpion 2nd fight is coming along just like I planned. They won't be limited to just one plane. This fight will spill all over the place. It has been put on hold right now as I needed a change of pace after working on MKU 3 so steadily.
Next on the agenda is my Future Force movie. I have plenty of room to add plenty of things there. I still have my work cut out for me. I have to voice all the characters...you know with hit grunts and all that. If you remember, the cast is stacked. Sabretooth, Bishop, Cyclops, Guile, Parasite, Strider, Nightcrawler,....not so much Jill anymore since she's a little incompasitated. I gotta add blood in a few more places too. The problem, being the creator, is that everytime I go back and watch it, I find something to tweak up. Once i'm satisfied it should turn out to be something great. This one has a lot of fighting. I can honestly say i'm proud of the choreo in this one. This is also another rare flash which I wrote a script/backstory for. I wrote out the role each character plays in the story, his motive, and why he's doing what it is he's doing. I'm considering putting in a mini intro to give you more insight on the backstory as well. If I learn how to work those damn actionscript buttons a little better, I'll be able to put the bios in the flash.
Finaly, Crossworlds(working title). It's almost ready to preview. I'm not sure what direction I want to take this one yet. It looks like it's going to be a superhero flash. I animated one a long time ago before my old computer took a dump on me and it was REALLY good. I was proud of that one. Sadly it went down with the ship, but this could be it's reincarnation. More on that as it develops. Meanwhile, here are a couple of shots of Bishop gettin his ass whupped. So, stick around, stay tuned, and stay entertained.
